SURROUNDINGS

Illa Mateua

On the northern side of the campsite is the Cala Mateua and here you will find the 'llla Mateua' situated just a few meters off the beach. The easy access and the rich diversity of the seabed makes it an ideal place to practise scuba-diving.

History of the 'Illa Mateua' In 1674, the Count of Empúries handed over to the brothers, Salvi and Francesc Sureda, the land which Illa Mateua Camping Resort occupies today, in exchange for payment of taxes. On the deeds, the 'Illa Mateua' figures as the property's northern boundary. Since then, this land has been preserved with minimum changes and it still belongs to the Sureda family
These fiestas form part of the tradition and history of L'Escala: with the passing of time some towns have changed the forms and customs, but in L'Escala there are fiestas that keep these alive .

Empuries

Next to L'Escala is Empúries, a place most characteristic and welcoming. Here we find the Greek - Roman town of Empúries, the first and most important Greek colony and later the Roman Empires entry port to Spain. Today it boasts an important mono graphic museum, and it was the entry point to the Peninsula of the Olympic flame for the  Olympic Games in 1992.

Salvador Dalí

Salvador Dalí has left an important legacy. The surrealist painter converted the Castell of Púbol, which can now be visited, in a work of art to offer to his muse Gala.
