SANT PERE DE RODES

The Benedictine monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes was built on the slopes of Mount Verdera under the ruins of the castle of Sant Salvador de Verdera.
The true origin of the monastery is unknown, but the first written documents date back to the year 878 or described as a simple monastic cell.

It is only from 945 it is then considered a Benedictine monastery, independent and governed by an abbot.
Related Ampurias County, it enjoys immense prestige between the 11th and 12th century. He was renowned as a place of jubilee celebrations until its destruction in the 17th century. From that time he was the target of widespread looting and that he was abandoned in 1793 by the Benedictine community.
